About the Event
Yara Yakoub is a PhD candidate in the Department of Neurosciences at McGill University, working under the supervision of Dr. Sylvia Villeneuve. Her doctoral research focuses on fluid-based biomarkers and PET imaging in Alzheimer's disease.
Blood-based biomarkers offer a promising alternative to currently used gold-standard techniques, such as PET imaging, for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology. Beyond improving our understanding of disease mechanisms, blood-based biomarkers also provide a more affordable and rapid means of identifying individuals suited for preventative trials aimed at developing novel disease-modifying drugs. In this presentation, Yara Yakoub, PhD (candidate), will provide an overview of a large body of evidence conducted by leading laboratories worldwide on the associations between blood-based biomarkers, imaging, and cognitive measures, as well as the prognostic ability of these markers in tracking clinical progression compared to PET imaging.
